Forming “The Friends of the Grand”
In 2021, we formed a 501(c)3 organization to help facilitate funding for the building’s restoration.
Our Vision:
A multi-use arts and events venue in downtown Gallup
The Ricca Merc/Grand Hotel building has a huge main floor, full basement, and multiple rooms on the second floor. We envision a space for dance recitals, music lessons and concerts, live theater, gallery space, venue for receptions and galas, and perhaps a nice cafe for patrons to kick back and enjoy a beverage or bite to eat.
Renovation Timeline
2011
501(c)3 Status
A group of local community members come together to form “The Friends of the Grand” in order to help the building owner secure renovation funding.
2023
Facade
Thanks to a grant from MainStreet America and the National Parks Service, work on the facade gets underway.
2025
Electrical
Electricians are contracted to fix and update electrical wiring and fixtures on all three floors.
2026
Bathrooms
The Route 66 Centennial Commission awards us a grant to purchase toilets and sinks, helping us to begin the bathroom renovation project.
Ongoing
Grants & Funding
We have big plans for updating the plumbing, building ADA-compliant restrooms, and installing fire safety systems.
Future Plans
Public Use
Once the first floor is brought up to city code, we can offer the first floor as a multi-use public arts and events venue.
